Amaya is a Web editor, i.e. a tool used to create and update documents directly on the Web. Browsing features are seamlessly integrated with the editing and remote access features in a uniform environment. This follows the original vision of the Web as a space for collaboration and not just a one-way publishing medium.

Work on Amaya started at W3C in 1996 to showcase Web technologies in a fully-featured Web client. The main motivation for developing Amaya was to provide a framework that can integrate as many W3C technologies as possible. It is used to demonstrate these technologies in action while taking advantage of their combination in a single, consistent environment.

Amaya first started as an HTML + CSS style sheets editing software. Since that time it was extended to support XML and an increasing number of XML applications such as the XHTML family, MathML, and SVG. It allows all those vocabularies to be edited simultaneously in compound documents.

CaptureScreen 1.6.3266

Screen capture program, very easy to use. Right-click for contextual menu access. Move and size the window to the desired location, and select the command "Capture" for a region capture of the screen, or the command "Full Screen" for a full capture of the screen.

Save the capture with the command "Save"; png format (by default) gives a perfect result. For precision, the "Image Size" menu displays or sets the real size (pixels) of the capture. The "Clear" command erases the capture and enables the commands to set the size of the capture.

The "Transparent Mode" command preserves the window and the image in transparency: you can use the capture like a tracing paper. How to create windows XP live CD in 15 mins

Microsoft Windows XP live CD is the best way to boot into the Operating System without installation into the computer. By using this XP Live CD you can use XP and its features without actually installing them. This sounds cool, right? Creating a Live CD is not a big problem. It just involves adding of some plugins. One of the easiest ways to do this is using a software called pebuilder. Using it, you can create an XP Live CD in just about 15 minutes!
Here’s all the software you’ll need:

Thw XP live CD can be created by the following steps:
Step 1: Download pebuilder3110a1.exe and install it.
Step 2: For the wallpaper, replace C:\pebuilder3110a\bartpe.bmp with the image you want as your wallpaper. You can
find the default XP wallpaper at C:\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpaper\bliss.bmp.
(Both these, of course, assume the C drive as the installation location.)
Step 3: Download the plugins:
xpe-1.0.7.cab: This will create the XP start button and taskbar. It is the GUI shell of the XP Live CD.
Network Driver Plugin Pack: This provides many network card drivers
FreeAV Virus Scanner: This integrates FreeAV
diskexplorer_for_ntfs.cab: A very good file explorer And more you can choose what you want to download to add functionality. There are 537 plugins right now to choose from!
Step 4: Open pebuilder. Specify the source path to the Windows installation file. This should be your Windows XP installation bootable CD, where the i386 folder resides.
Step 5: Click Plugins and add the plugins you’ve downloaded. Since you’ve included xpe-1.0.7.cab, disable nu2shell and the startup group.
Step 6: Specify the ISO image file, and click Build.
Step 7: After that’s done, use Nero (or any other burning software) and burn the image file to a CD. You’re done!

What is Draw?

Draw is well integrated with the other OpenOffice.org programs but stands completely on its own as well. It’s a great drawing program. Photo Gallery, part of Microsoft's 'Live' suite, is an application for photo storage and
online editing. It's very similar in use to Google's Picasa below, but seems notably faster
and adds a couple of extra features. Which you choose is likely to depend mostly on
whether you prefer Microsoft or Google's web products.

Google's photo organiser Picasa also offers a wealth of photo editing, storage and
back-up options, and recently it's added face-recognition technology to its feature-set,
meaning you can tag 100s of photos at once. Whether it's better than the Live service
above though is still a matter of opinion.
Photo editing in a hurry: Picnik.
This is another online photo editor, but you don't need to register to use it, so it's great if
you're in a rush. Picnik is also fast, and has some more fun and arty effects than the
others.
Quick image resizer: Rsizr.
This is a simple online tool for resizing and cropping pictures. There are plenty of similar
sites on the web, but Rsizr's flash-based, step-by-step interface makes it the most
intuitive I've seen.

Microsoft Virtual PC

Microsoft Virtual PC is a virtualization suite for Microsoft Windows operating systems, and an emulation suite for Mac OS X on PowerPC-based systems. The software was originally written by Connectix, and was subsequently acquired by Microsoft. In July 2006 Microsoft released the Windows-hosted version as a free product. In August 2006 Microsoft announced the Macintosh-hosted version would not be ported to Intel-based Macintoshes, effectively discontinuing the product as PowerPC-based Macintoshes are no longer manufactured.

Virtual PC virtualizes/emulates a standard PC and its associated hardware. All Windows operating systems released to date (May, 2008) run on Virtual PC. Other OSes like Linux may run, but are not officialy supported.

Virtual PC emulates the following.
32-bit Intel Pentium II processor (but virtualizes the host processor on Windows versions) with an Intel 440BX chipset
standard SVGA VESA graphics card (S3 Trio 64 PCI with 4 MB Video RAM, adjustable in later versions up to 16 MB)
system BIOS from American Megatrends (AMI)
Creative Labs Sound Blaster 16 ISA PnP (native Vista audio when Vista acts as host and guest)[clarify]
DEC 21041 (DEC 21140 in newer versions) Ethernet network card.

Not all programs are guaranteed to work because they can use undocumented features of hardware, exotic timings, or unsupported opcodes, although overall compatibility can be considered satisfactory.
The Macintosh version of Virtual PC uses dynamic recompilation to translate the x86 code used by a standard PC into equivalent PowerPC code used by a Mac.
The Windows version of Virtual PC also uses dynamic recompilation, but only to translate kernel mode and real mode x86 code into x86 user mode code, while original user mode and virtual 8086 mode code run natively.

It also uses some guest calls traps (especially when using the guest extensions) to accelerate emulation or offer additional features, such as integration with the host environment.

Virtual Hard Disk (VHD) is the file format used by Virtual PC and Virtual Server, for which Microsoft has made available all documentation under the Open Specification Promise.

Support for Windows 95, the Windows 98 original release, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0 Workstation and MS-DOS 6.22 as guest operating systems has been discontinued in VirtualPC 2007. [1]

Guest operating systems which are officially unsupported may be installable, however, they may or may not work properly and Virtual Machine Additions are not available.

Linux guests are officially unsupported in Virtual PC 2004 and 2007 although Virtual Machine Additions support for Linux was available in Connectix's version of Virtual PC before being acquired by Microsoft. Microsoft supports VM Additions for Linux only in their Virtual Server product. Both the OS/2 and Linux VM additions were developed by German company innotek GmbH for Connectix/Microsoft

What is Impress?

Impress creates presentations (also known as slide shows) that you display from your computer, often with a projector, so that people can see what is on your screen. Each page of a presentation is called a slide. You add slides to a presentation and then add text and graphics to each slide. You also have all you need to create a masterful presentation. Impress allows you to do the following:

· Create a presentation quickly with AutoPilot or a template

· Add notes to each slide that are just for the presenter

· View your presentation in several ways using the Drawing, Outline, Slide,Notes, Handout, and Slide Show views

· Save, print, and export and import in several formats (including yourfavorites)

What is Calc?

Calc can calculate anything you hand it. It’s a full-featured spreadsheet program with all the great bells and whistles you’d expect from the best. While Calc is super at doing all the basic spreadsheet things, such as adding, sorting, manipulating rows and columns, and inserting graphics, Calc also lets you do the following:

· Link to external databases, such as dBase and MySQL (or even your email address book) and view, query, sort, filter, generate automatic reports and more, without affecting your original database.

What is Writer?

What do you use your word processor for? Jotting down notes to yourself? Writing letters? Or publishing an entire book with style sheets, automated indexing and table of contents generation, as well as bibliographies? Whether your needs are large or small, Writer is up to the job. What Is OpenOffice.org?

• Impress: A very capable presentation program for creating electronic slide shows As its name suggests, OpenOffice.org is also a Web site. The Web site, at www.openoffice.org, is the home of the project that creates, markets, and distributes the applications.

AbiWord

AbiWord is a free word processor that is licensed under the GNU Public license. It provides most of the features that are normally found in a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) word processor, including spell checking, the ability to have various fonts, as well as displaying on-screen what the document will look like when printed.
The way that AbiWord works is also very similar to most other word processing programs that are available on the market at the moment, and so skills in AbiWord will translate well into skills with most other word processing software.
AbiWord is a full-featured word processor originally developed by the SourceGear Corporation, and is now maintained by a open group of volunteers. The application code is quite mature and stable, and developers are adding new features to development branches daily.

Advantages
Some of the advantages of AbiWord are as follows:

1.     An open file format: many proprietary word processors use a file-format that is not disclosed.  This means that once you have created a lot of documents using that format it becomes very difficult to change to any other word processor since other programs are not able to read the documents that you have created.  Furthermore, by changing the document format every so often, the vendor is able to force you to purchase the next version - even if there are no useful new features to justify the upgrade cost.
2. Because it is free software (that is, the source code is freely available), bugs in the program can be fixed much faster because programmers from around the world have access to the code.  It may take much longer to have bugs fixed in proprietary word processors because you must wait for the company that owns the word processor to find the time to assign a programmer to fix it.  Also, the company will often require the users to pay for an upgrade containing fixes to the buggy program whereas bug fixes to free software such as AbiWord are available for no charge.
3. Another advantage of AbiWord is that, being free software, it is not only legal to share the program with your friends, but sharing the software is actually encouraged.
4. AbiWord runs on many different operating systems.  This means that if you use AbiWord as your main word processing program, rather than being tied to a particular operating system, you are free to use any other operating system at some point in the future with no problems with transition.  This allows for a great deal of choice when people are deciding what operating system they prefer to use on their computer.
5. It is easy to use.  AbiWord is designed to work in much the same way as most other easy to use word processors.  Using a combination of menus, icons and the graphical representation of the document on-screen as it will appear on the printed page, AbiWord is a very easy to use word-processing program.

Gnumeric

Gnumeric is a spreadsheet, a computer program used to manipulate and analyze numeric data. Gnumeric can help you keep track of information in lists, organize numeric values in columns and rows, perform and update complex calculations by defining each step of the calculation and modifying particular steps subsequently, create and display or print graphical plots of data using bar plots, line graphs, pie charts or radar charts, implement complex optimization modeling or perform many other tasks involving numbers, dates, times, names or other data.

Best of all Gnumeric is freeware.

Where to Find Other Software

This list is just the tip of the iceberg; there are plenty of sites out there with vast databases of free programs. Yet always be careful what you add to your computer, and regularly check the Add/Remove Programs section of Control Panel for things you've downloaded yet never use. Get rid of those you have no need for to keep your PC in shape. It's good if you test in Virtual PC, before you install into your PC. You have to know if you need or not after test the software.

As for browsing free software sites, there are a few big ones, which have programs on virtually anything under the sun. Be careful to check the veracity of other download sites before using them; after all, it's through downloading that the most vicious malware will get onto your machine.

Osalt. Osalt is a software database with a difference, as it only lists open source equivalents to commercial programs. You just tell it which commercial program you want, and it'll list the free programs that are most similar to it.

Sourceforge. Sourceforge is big open source software database. You can find huge opensource software, many of them is famous software. Any kind of software con be found here. Visit Sourceforge.com and find thousands project that you can enjoy!.

FileHippo. A user friendly and well organised site, FileHippo catalogues browsers, firewalls, audio tools and DVD tools. It also promises no pop-ups when you visit the site.

Snapfiles. More slick than FileHippo SnapFiles has the added bonus of user reviews and feedback, though it can be hard to find what you're looking for.

Download. One of the biggest databases, Download.com includes everything from digital photo tools to developer tools. Also has a Mac section.

Tucows.
Like Snapfiles, Tucows includes its own and users' ratings and also has sections for Linux and Mac users.
